3 Effortless Ways to Encourage Reflection During Lent

During Lent, we spend time reflecting on our sins and need for a Savior, celebrating our Baptism and the salvation won through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ! It’s a great opportunity to reach out to your members and community, encouraging people to set aside time for reflection.

1. Suggest ways to spend time in the Word.

The best way to reflect during Lent? By getting into God’s Word, of course!

Suggest a Bible reading plan. Here’s a Lent reading plan from BibleGateway.com that follows the complete story of Jesus’ birth, life, and resurrection. Or, encourage your members to dig into Scripture with a daily devotional written specifically for the season, such as Places of the Passion or Singing with the Exiles from CPH.

If any of your members are unable to attend mid-week services, they will especially appreciate your suggestions.

2. Provide interesting, informative content.

Create or direct your members to informative content they will want to consume and pass on to their friends.

Content you create can come in many different forms. For example, your pastor could write a blog post about repentance and forgiveness; your youth group could shoot a video where they each talk about what Lent means to them; or, the church office could create an email template that members can personalize and send to their friends and family, inviting them to worship.

You can also direct people to existing content, such as this video called “What Is Lent?” that I helped create last year. Educational content is great because it can serve as a refresher for your members, an introduction for new Christians, or a teaching tool for kids.

3. Share Bible verses to inspire reflection.

Share powerful images and Bible verses each week on social media or in your worship bulletins to inspire reflection on God's Word.

You can download the graphics I designed in the kit below, or create your own inspirational images using verses that coordinate well with your sermon series. In the kit, you’ll find 7 different designs, one to share each Wednesday during Lent, including social media posts and bulletin inserts.
